EVENTPUB Technical Committee

Charter

Establish standards and best practices for the event publication community. Public events tend to be outwards facing, managed, and consumed by multiple and diverse clients.

Focus on the unique aspects of events and their required field structures intended for public audiences. These fields are meant to enable event categorization and search in an open yet standardized way, and enable easy discovery of events in local areas or other areas of interest.

Define, establish and promote a general, standard way for calendar import and subscription services to be presented and/or accessed.

Maintain strong liaisons with other CalConnect Technical Committees engaged in relevant and mutual work, in particular TC RESOURCE, TC USECASE, and TC XML.

June 2010 Initial draft and IETF submission of " LINK Property Extension to iCalendar" Internet Draft
February 2011 Initial draft and IETF submission of " Event Publication Extensions to iCalendar" Internet Draft

Current Work

  • Specify a global category system suitable to common event publishing

  • Specify an intellectual property (IP) strategy suitable to track and protect IP embedded in event publications

  • Coordinate the creation of a general "calendar" icon analogous to the the RSS icon

  • Document the mechanism for handling calendar entities especailly in a browser, including a Javascript widget as a demonstration

  • Document and register "webcal" through IANA
