MOBILE Technical Committee

Charter

The goal of the Mobile technical committee is to identify the issues associated with mobile calendaring & scheduling and propose recommendations on how to address any problem areas.

This TC will provide the Consortium with information on the current state of mobile calendaring & scheduling and gather requirements and use cases specific to mobile environments. The TC will promote adoption of open calendaring standards for mobile devices (e.g. iCalendar and CalDAV) and create best practice documents as needed to assist implementation of these standards.

To achieve these goals, the TC intends to work in concert with organisations and vendors in the mobile industry.

May 2006 Draft report on Mobile Calendaring Questionnaire ready for review by Consortium members. Documentation to be presented during TC-MOBILE meeting at Roundtable VI
July 2006 Published Mobile Calendaring Questionnaire V2 Results.
September 2006 Draft white paper on the benefits of migrating from vCalendar to iCalendar ready for review. Documentation to be presented during TC-MOBILE meeting at Roundtable VII.
November 2006 Published The Benefits of iCalendar for the Mobile Industry.
May 2007 Draft Interoperability Test Specification ready for review. Documentation to be presented during TC-MOBILE session at Roundtable IX.
August 2007 Published Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Suite.
February 2008 First CalConnect Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Event at Roundtable XI.
March 2008 Virtual Testing requirements and Mobile Test Event logistics (Input contribution to TC-IOPTEST).
April 2008 Define subset of Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Suite to be used for future test events.
June 2008 Draft white paper on recurrence interoperability issues and best practices for handling unsupported recurrence patterns for mobile devices. Documentation to be presented during TC MOBILE session at Roundtable XII.
Summer 2008 Pilot of CalConnect Virtual Test Lab.
November 2008 Second Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Event (November 4-6 2008). Hosted by Kerio Technologies, Plzen, Czech Republic.
May 2010 Third Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Event (May 24-26 2010). Hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
September 2010 "TC MOBILE Interoperability Test Event Report" on the Third Mobile Calendaring Test Event Published..
May 2011 Presented several mobile-specific usecases that interlap significantly with tasks and public events. Ongoing discussion of usefulness of continuing to do mobile interoperability testing.
