Mobile Interoperabilty Test Event Registration:
Register one to six people
as participants in the November 2008 CalConnect Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test
Event, with a choice of payment options.
Please be aware that the number of participants in this event will be limited,
so early registration is advisable.

Kerio is across the street from the Conference Hotel, U Zvonu (see below).

Kerio and Hotel Plzen U Zvonu.
Transportation
Airport Information:
Plzen is served by Prague Ruzyne International Airport (PRG), which is about
10Km from Prague, and about a 50 minute drive from Plzen. Prague Ruzyne is a
large, modern airport served by a variety of carriers, and is
the hub for Czech Airlines. Travelers from most European hubs will be able to
fly directly to Prague; intercontinental travelers will probably need to
travel through a major international hub such as London, Frankfurt, etc.
Ground Transportation:
CalConnect is working with the U Zvonu hotel (see below), which will assist us
in arranging ground transportation from the Prague Airport to Plzen for all
attendees interested. On the Registration form you will be able to sign up for
this service; by mid-October we will need your arrival date, time, and airline.
During the Test Event, we will make group arrangements for interested attendees
traveling back to the airport.
Rental cars and Taxis:
Rental cars are available at the Prague airport. Taxis are also available at
the airport, and you would be able to arrange a taxi in Plzen with your hotel to
return you to the airport if you don't want to take advantage of the group
transportation we are arranging. Please be aware that most Czech Taxis do
not accept credit cards. You will need to have sufficient Czech currency for the
trip. The taxi driver might be willing to take you by a cash machine (ATM) during
your trip, but you should ask before embarking.
Conference Hotel:
We have arranged a block of 25 rooms at the
Plzen U Zvonu Hotel which will be available for booking until the end of
October. This hotel, across the street from Kerio, offers excellent accommodations, an attractive rate, and has only
27 rooms (plus a nice restaurant). The room block is available between November 3
and November 7. Please book online at the above URL; specify "CalConnect Member"
in the "Specific Requirements" note to get the
CalConnect rate and to participate in the room block.
Schedule:
Arrive before or on Monday November 3rd. We have not planned a group dinner on Monday as people
will arrive at different times.
Plan on having breakfast at your hotel. The IOP Test Event will be catered with
lunch, hot and cold drinks, and morning and afternoon snacks.
Testing will run from 0900-1800 each day.
Kerio will host a welcome reception on Tuesday evening. We will have a group
dinner at Stara Sladovna on Wednesday, and at U Mansfelda on Thursday.
Technical Arrangements:
You must provide your own mobile devices or servers (either with you or
available via an internet connection). Plzen has three mobile carriers: O2,
T-Mobile, and Vodafone. All networks are GSM. Kerio can also provide SIM cards
with unlimited data plans for international participants who otherwise would run
up enormous international calling charges. Participants will have to have unlocked
phones to use these SIM cards. You may request SIM cards via your Registration form; we will need to
know the total number shortly before the event.
Testing Scenarios
Testing will be done based on the
Mobile Calendaring Interoperability Test Suite. We anticipate that participants
will arrange "testing pairs"; previous experience suggests that a testing pair
will require about 1/2 day to execute the relevant portions of the test suite for their
purposes. The 3-day event will thus allow each participant to test with six others.
The types of testing individual participants want to do will vary, and we are
asking interested parties to contact us to indicate their specific interests.
In general, we expect the testing types to include the following if participants
are interested:
1. OMA-DS 1.2 Calendar (Contacts) Synchronisation:
Mobile device accessing OMA-DS server over-the-air (WLAN/WiFi or cellular network).
OMA-DS server stores calendar itself, or acts as an adaptor to other calendar store (e.g. Exchange/Domino).
This type of testing could include synchronisation to web calendars like Google Calendar.
Most devices will exchange vCalendar 1.0 (vCard 2.1) objects.
An introduction to the OMA-DS (formely SyncML) protocol can be found at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyncML, or at
http://www.openmobilealliance.org/Technical/release_program/SyncML_Primer_v1_0.aspx.
2. Proprietary "push email" synchronization solutions:
Mobile device receives iCalendar/vCalendar data over-the-air from push email server.
Push email server stores calendar itself, or acts as an adaptor to other calendar
store (e.g. Exchange/Domino).
RIM's Blackberry and Microsoft's ActiveSync protocols are examples of this test
configuration:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server, and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activesync.
If we have sufficiently capable clients and servers we could include other types
of testing, for example:
3. Direct exchange of iCalendar objects between Calendar Store and Mobile Device:
For example, basic interoperability testing of iCalendar objects via MIME email
(group scheduling invitations)
4. Mobile CalDAV client accessing CalDAV server to access calendar .
