The Eleventh Roundtable of The Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium, together with the CalConnect Interoperability Test Events (C.I.T.E.), will be held in Menlo Park, California, Monday-Friday, February 4-8, 2008, hosted by Sun Microsystems.

The C.I.T.E. interoperability testing will take place all day Monday and Tuesday, ending at 18:00 on Tuesday evening. (The regular and mobile test events will take place in parallel but in different rooms.) The Roundtable will begin with setup and coffee at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, and runs through early afternoon on Friday the 8th. An optional Introductory Q & A about CalConnect is scheduled at 09:15 on Wednesday the 6th.


Registration:

Registration information for the Roundtable may be found at Roundtable Registration; registration information for the C.I.T.E. IOP Test Events is at C.I.T.E. Participant Registration or at C.I.T.E. Observer Registration. You must register separately for the Roundtable and for the IOP test events if you plan to do both. Observers for either the Roundtable or the C.I.T.E. must also register via the appropriate registration form.

Please note: the early registration fee of $350 for Roundtable XI ends on January 18th. After that date the registration fee will be $395.


C.I.T.E. IOP Test Events: The C.I.T.E. interoperability testing events are open to members and non-members (and to participants and observers); please see C.I.T.E. February 2008 for current information. Check back often as this will be updated as we get nearer to the event. You do not need finished or polished code to participate in the IOP testing; in fact as soon as you have something working at all, testing against other participants can help debugging and code development, especially in identifying red herrings and wrong decisions.

Roundtable XI: The Roundtable will be largely comprised of Technical Committee meetings, to which all members and observers are welcome, informal BOFs (Birds of a Feather sessions), plus some additional sessions and committee meetings which will be determined closer to the event. Friday morning will be the full Plenary meeting of the Consortium, open to all participants. This session will include report-outs from all Technical Committees, possibly demonstrations resulting from the IOP testing earlier in the week, and establishment of future goals and directions for the Consortium.


Location

The C.I.T.E. and Roundtable will take place on the Menlo Park campus of Sun Microsystems, just north of Stanford University in the San Francisco Bay Area. Meeting Rooms: The C.I.T.E. (Monday and Tuesday) will take place in the OASIS room in Building 11 (MPK11, Room 1376). The Roundtable (Wednesday-Friday) will take place in the CROSSROADS room in Building 11 (MPK11, Room 2150).

All attendees must come to the Lobby of Building 10 to be checked in and escorted to the meeting rooms in Building 11. You must do this each day.

Parking: Please park in a designated visitor parking area.


Transportation

Airport Information: The San Francisco Bay Area is served by three airports: San Jose International (SJC), San Francisco International (SFO), and Oakland International (OAK). Menlo Park is approximately midway between San Francisco International and San Jose International; about 20 miles from each. Oakland Internatinal is on the east side of the Bay and less convenient. SFO has the greatest range of flights and airlines serving it, but you may be able to find less expensive fares to SJC or OAK.

Ground Transportation: Information on rental cars and public transportation are available on all three airport websites.


Hotels:

There are many hotels and motels within reasonable driving distance of the meeting site, although none appear to be within comfortable walking distance. At this point CalConnect does not have a "meeting hotel" to recommend to CalConnect attendees. This list is provided by Sun Microsystems as a representative sample. Most of these are "approved" by Sun, however only two of those, the Comfort Inn Palo Alto and the Hilton Newark/Fremont, offer a special rate to attendees at the CalConnect conference; if you wish to stay at one of them please mention "corporate rate for Sun event" when booking.

Please be aware also that the hotels in the Newark/Fremont area are across the Dunbarton Bridge in the East Bay, which will mean a $4 bridge toll and may involve heavy commuter traffic during rush hours. However the fee is waived for car pools and the commuter lanes rarely back up.

There is a Sun shuttle which runs between Newark, and a possibilty of arranging a car pool, if anyone wants to stay in the East Bay and arrange transportation; please contact Dave Thewlis if you are interested and we will provide more information.
